Somehow I've always felt 32 had a nicer ring to it than 30.
I'll be "celebrating" at EuroPython in Vilnius. Plane leaves in 95 minutes.

...is alive again! After two years of once in a while poking the author asking for my six patches to get merged in, I recently got given commit access and admin rights, and between the three of us we started talking about doing an actual release!
I just commited a patch for my own bug (God, I'd forgotten how much SF's bug tracker sucked ass).
Now I have to hurry the hell up to get the other five patches in there before the release deadline, which is scheduled for halfway through July.
In the distance I can hear Andrew Patrick Wingo's maniacal laughter...

Flumotion is hiring again!
We're looking for talented, motivated and passionate developers who want a
healthy mix of working on a real commercial product and platform, and the
Free Software technologies they're based on.
Flumotion SL is a Spanish company, located in Barcelona, and part of the
Fluendo group.
Flumotion is our UNIX-based streaming server, written in Python, on top of
GStreamer and Twisted. Our platform is a collection of Linux servers
distributed over Spain, as we're looking to expand our business further
into Europe. It handles several Gbit/s of streaming traffic.
We are also working on a commercial version of Flumotion, to be released later
this year.
We are looking for developers to:
- work on the core technology: the server, GStreamer integration, the platform, scalability
- work on the box project: web frontend, usability
- work on the web projects: our website, our customer portal, and our backoffice
Python experience is not required, but definitely a plus.
If you like working with other hackers, on real-world projects, while looking
out over the sea and enjoying the good weather of Barcelona, contact us! Feel
free to drop me a mail at thomas (at) flumotion (dot) com if you prefer to
drop off your CV in a more human mailbox.
For more information, as well as complete job descriptions, see our
Hiring page.

I remember when I moved to Barcelona I was planning to take the opportunity to bring out my inner nerd more. I was going to go find a LUG to join, meet up with fellow hackers in the local area, and do the things nerds do.
I also had this vague idea of getting people from work over to my place on a weekend and working together a whole day on a common project.
Well, the LUG idea didn't pan out - I remember finding two LUGs around Barcelona, one being entirely Catalan and the other with less of a nationalist focus, but still pretty Catalan. I guess I was scared to join up with my nonexistent Catalan skills. I didn't meet very many local hackers, though I recently started going to the Barcelona Python Meetup, and I still have to meet up with Pau whom I met on the subway.
The hacking weekends didn't happen either - I don't think people were as interested as I was to do so in the weekend, although I had a few succesful stints with Jan before he left for Ireland that I remember fondly. But mostly people were happy to go out and get drinks/food/partied.
So, I was happy when Peter proposed we organize Nerd Nights. The idea is we get together and do nerdy things. We used to do this automatically in the house we shared before I moved to Spain. But now the other guys need to find a way to get some me-time away from wife/girlfriend and kids, and this is the perfect activity in which we're guaranteed to have the women not join in.
Tonight's the first one. We have various things we want to work on, including noiseproofing PC's, getting Linux on a really old laptop, teaching Jeroen how to bittorrent, Setting up the Tux Droid, setting up the scrolling marquee Peter and I have, using the Cue::Cat, designing a new DAD (Digital Audio Database), making a VGA-over-CAT-7 cable ... The list goes on.
It's not exactly like the Hacking weekends I wanted to do, since it's not Linux- or hacking-oriented, but it's still enough to keep my inner nerd happy for now :)

So, Flumotion is once again on the lookout for new talent to join their ranks!
At the moment, we're looking for something we've never looked for before, so the lazyweb can chime in on suggestions about the kind of person I'm looking for. We need to flesh out Flumotion's user manual, which has been in a sorry state after my initial burst of writing a few years ago.
So, I'm not sure if I'm looking for a good writer that happens to be interested in Free Software and technology, or if I'm looking for a developer or QA person that just happens to be a decent writer. Maybe a mix of both ?
What I do know is that, if you think this is something you have done in the past or you feel you could do, let me know. And if you've had the same problem before in your company and had to solve it creatively, feel free to let me know as well. Or if you'd just like to pontificate, that works for me as well.
And if you, person of extreme documenting skills, happen to be at FOSDEM, hunt me down and talk to me!
We are, besides that, also looking for the usual - talented savvy developers with experience in or a desire to learn Python, and hack on the core of Flumotion, our platform, related services, or our websites and portals. We need more than one, so don't be shy - if you think, and rightly so, that Barcelona is a great city to be and Flumotion is a great company to get you there, let me know! Step up at FOSDEM and let me know, or drop me a line at thomas at flumotion dot com
