That might just about be the best snow I've ever had. On top of the one day of snow/one day of sun we got in the beginning of the week, we got another combo like that. There was an all-night and all-day snowfall, and by the end of the day the slopes had massive mounds of waist-deep virgin snow on the slopes themselves. I didn't even need to go off-piste at all.

Every time I fell I got up with a wide grin on my face. I jumped a little hill off the piste, went a meter into the air, landed, got stuck, tipped over, did a cartwheel, sank in the snow, turned the bord 90 degrees, and slided away, without any damage. Spectacular. I wish I had it on video.

Now, the best thing about getting back is having a week's worth of xkcd and daily WTF to catch up on.

The worst ? 7000 non-list emails in my INBOX. Got them narrowed down to 100 over the last two days.

Day 2 in the village of Saint-Marcel. We are on a skiing trip for this week. We, that is, Kristien and me, Mariette from work, and Anna and her brother from one of the other companies.

Kristien and I arrived yesterday morning and already went boarding the whole day. Lots of sun, good snow - even though it hasn't snowed for a month -, a nice chalet, everything great. There's no snow in the village where we are, but that's fine. The chalet is not next to a slope, so it takes some walking to get to the elevator, but hey - the price is right.

Yesterday we made some excellent spaghetti with vodka, and we toasted to lots of snow during the night. When we went to bed, it started pouring rain like crazy. The toast didn't work.

But this morning when we woke up and looked out the window, the roofs were covered in snow. We got a little sun in the morning, but it snowed pretty much all day, adding 50 cm of fresh powder on and next to the runs. There's just no comparing to all the times I went skiing in Andorra or Italia - France really does have much better snow.

They predict some more snow all night and tomorrow. Just simply awesome... All of you who decided not to come with us this week are wrong :)

All right, time to go home, we're making tartiflette.

I'd like to thank my sweet sweet butterbee for putting up with the egotistical asshole that I am for so long. It may not be much for other people, but five years is a long time for the both of us.

Even though we're not together tonight, I'm sure that pretty soon we will celebrate in style in our new apartment that's just about done this week.

Baby, you're the best.

Landing in Brussels one hour late under a cover of mist, -4 degrees Celsius, a thin layer of snow covering the whole airfield. 12 missed calls and 5 voice mail messages. Is this the life, or what ? Answers on a postcard.

Don’t dream it’s over

Last week I had a dream that finally confirmed a long-standing suspicion of mine - the dream me and the real me have completely different goals and behaviours.

Case in point. I was dreaming I was in bed. Kristien was with me, naked. With us as well, sharing the bed, was Jennifer Lopez - the young version, also naked. (When I say "young Jennifer Lopez", think Jennifer in "Money Train" saying "me gusta bailar con tijo"). Kristien and Jennifer were comparing breast firmness and various other attributes.

So far, so good, right ?

Then I realize the blinds are open and some guy is staring through the window. What a pervert! So I close the blinds.

I then realize there are other ways to get into the house, so I start closing more blinds, shutting windows. I leave the room, and I'm in the middle of a huge factory. Apparently my swanky love nest is in a really big building. I start closing doors left and right, walking through the building. I trip some sprinklers, trip, slide through the factory, get back up, and keep going. I close garage doors, windows, doors, everything.

I keep going, until I go through a door that takes me into my grandmother's house. She's not there, but the cleaning lady gives me the keys to lock the rest of the doors. By that time I've spent half an hour closing doors left and right and making sure no one can peek in or get in.

Now, consider how the story started.

The real me wouldn't have focused so much on closing doors all over the place.

Is it too much to ask that, when given an opportunity in the dream world that would never in a million years happen in the real world, my dream alter ego would act like me and seize the moment ?
